When Realisation DawnedA Poem by Karthika MuruganIt takes forever to realise
The first time I opened
my eyes to the light, I got my sight, But didn't know what was right. The first time I walked a path, I had a hand to hold, But didn't know what was ahead my path, Or what my future held. The first time I spoke, Even an absurd sound was applauded, But I didn't know all this flatter At the end will not matter. The first time I scribbled, Even the illegible words Were a treasure That gave them pleasure. Every time I did something For the first time, I didn't know I would feel that everything Only For the last time. The last time I scribbled, Even the most legible words were a trash unless it was for cash. The last time I spoke even the most wise words made them run away as if they were swords. The last time I walked I only had a cane to hold, I knew what was ahead I had to give everything I withheld. The last time I closed my eyes, I lost my sight, finally knowing what was right. Every time I did some for the last time, I realized everything for the first time.
