Why Am I Angry?

Why Am I Angry?

A Poem by Missy

I'm angry because when they found his body, there were maggots in his diaper
His parents didn't even take him out of his car seat
I'm angry because she's 14 and getting married to a 30 year old man
And she has no choice in the matter
Because you think your religion should be law
That people are fighting for the right to get married
A right that's denied to them based solely on sexual orientation
Because men can conceive a child, refuse the responsibility of caring for them
While screaming murderer at women who know they deserve the choice to become mothers
Or not
They didn't forfeit that right by having sex
Because girls bodies are a distraction to male education
So much so, that yoga pants are now considered too provocative
Because parents abuse their children
Because some a*****e actually wrote an article titled "Reasons to Date a Girl With an Eating Disorder"
And he defended it
Because some kids are so afraid to keep going to school, they kill themselves to avoid it
And it should never happen
Because children are raped by adults who get away with it
Because anyone is raped
Because skin color can make you a target
Because a single mother on food stamps is thought less of
Instead of respected for doing everything she can to make sure her child is fed
Even when it costs her pride
Because domestic violence isn't taken seriously enough
Because my gender is seen as a weakness
And I should be okay with being thought of as nothing more than a f**k toy
At the same time I'm being shamed for my sexuality
And it all just pisses me off.

It's really sad that these are only some of the issues that exist in this world, and seeing all of them in one place is definitely eye-opening. The imagery that you used (especially in the first line) was so strong, and you have such a pronounced voice. Great piece!
