Love and Hate

Love and Hate

A Poem by Alyssa Hamilton

Lately I’ve been trying really hard to hate you
Playing every conversation again in my head
I rip out each caring word and “I love you’s”
Replacing them with heartache and angry screams instead
But late at night when I just can’t fall asleep
My heart rejects the image of you I want to see
Maybe you were damn perfect, so I’ll be counting sheep
Because maybe it’s not really you that I hate, it’s me
