People stare as I walk by-

Judging...

assessing...

appraising...?

It is hard to tell,

But why they do it is irrelevant.

I just want to be ignored-

left alone to be the solitary wolf I am.

I know who I am

I don't need STRANGERS-

or "FRIENDS"-

telling me who THEY think I am-

what THEY think I am.

I know ME!

I know my faults, flaws, and weaknesses

I know what I have done wrong

I know what must be done to remedy it.

And when I do it will not be for YOU!

It's not to gain YOUR approval

or to win YOUR love.

Nor for YOUR respect, affection, or friendship.

It will be for ME!

I want so desperately to love ME

I want MY own respect and MY own approval.

I want to be happy in MY skin

with MY entire self-

inside and out.

I will change for ME alone.
