The Rain

~Missy Lorraine~

The sky...it seems so dark and grey to me now

No matter how bright everyone says it is...I cannot believe their words

It has been raining...like icy tears...for so long now

That I don't think I could survive

Without their stinging kisses upon my cheeks.

My mind is eased with every drop that touches my hot skin

The raindrops are so like his kisses...that I cannot tell the difference

All that I know is that I need them more than you can imagine

But he will not have me.

For my lips...they belong to someone now

Someone that care for...so completely...someone I cannot bear to hurt

But I want to know if the spark is still there between us

I am so scared though...so very afraid

What if it is?

What I have isn’t bad...I feel safe

Besides would he even want me...after all that happened between us

But that was years ago and things can change

People change.

I do not even know if I love him at all

But we were interrupted...we never were given the chance

To play things out...to see where it would go

I wonder if it would have worked

Or failed miserably.

Unfortunately I will never know

For I am not a cheater... but a lover

So I shall never find out.

I think most of us have someone who we wonder about in such a way. It's the mystery of not knowing that intrigues us. Chance are, had you gone with him, you would have wondered the same thing about the one you are with now.

I agree completely. I wonder less and less each day.
Thank you all for the beautiful reviews. You make me so very happy. Not too long ago, I found myself unable to write anything and it made me extremely depressed. Not being able to express ones self can be very rough on not only the mind, but the body as well. It can harm relationships, cause people to lose their jobs, and ruin lives . For this reason, many people resort to things such as suicide and other such rash actions. I am so glad I did not get to that point. We are all lucky we have this wonderful ability to write and let out our feelings and express our thoughts, dreams, and beliefs. You are all beautiful people and talented writers, no matter what other people may say. And even though I haven't met most of you in person, I love you all the same.

A very sad piece with inklings of hope. Certainly very powerful and filled with emotions. Great job!

The lost love, the one that got away. Oh how the mind reminds us of the what ifs over and over again. This was wonderful, you told your story in a soft and flowing way, all the while penning love in each line. Indeed Missy, you are very talented.

This is a good piece. I like that you give the feeling of there being a happy ending for your old flame. Then bam! You end it telling him that you'll never know. I bet that hit him hard. Good write.
