I hear the steady sound of footsteps pacing around. As I open my eyes, slender beams of light enter my once darkened room. Facing the wall, the shadow of an irregularly tall man appears. I hold my breath.
"He's back again." I think to myself.
The man takes another step closer. I try to exhale but cough instead. He knows I'm awake now.
"When you see him, just close your eyes and count to ten." I hear Dr. Tribswab's voice in my head.
I close my eyes to the sight of him taking another step.
"One." I count aloud. I can hear the shakiness in my voice
"Two." With my eyes closer I couldn't see him inching closer.
"Three." I try not to let myself shake.
"Four." I was starting to crack.
"Five." I heard him walking.
"Six." I clinched my fists. My fingernails are piercing my skin.
"Seven." My pillow was damp from tears and blood.
"Eight." I was now shaking uncontrollably.
"Nine." I coughed before I could get the rest of the word out. I took a long pause before saying the last number.
"Ten." I opened my eyes to darkness.
He was gone. It was all a nightmare. I sat up and wiped the sweat off my forehead. I reached out in the darkness, looking for a light switch. I rubbed my hands up and down the walls, feeling for the switch. I feel my finger stumble over a switch. I flick it on. Smiling in relievement, I turn around. My smile fades as my relievement turns to terror.
His black suit always in place, he stood tall. He was a man without a face, though it always told me a story, always the same story.
The only thing I knew was for the first time, I was face to face with the Slenderman.
This story is based on the tale of Slenderman. He is an 8 feet tall man who always wears a black suit and usually a red tie. He has no face. He usually stalks victims for years. He has a history of stalking children. . Usually after a couple years the child will disappear never to be found again. Seeing him usually causes memory loss, insomnia, paranoia, and coughing fits.

It might help the immediacy of the piece if it maintained the present tense. It starts that way, but then veers into past tense. It is definitely suspenseful and riveting.

To "revile" - is to critique in an abusive manner... perhaps she smiled in relief? Relievement? read moreTo "revile" - is to critique in an abusive manner... perhaps she smiled in relief? Relievement?
And you may be too young to know the show - but Twin Peaks had a "Giant" character that seems to fit your imagery. Carel Struycken was the actor. Impossibly tall, slender and truly haunting - google him. Best of luck.
