A Poem by Gina Laurie Whitford

My heart broke that day in your front yard

when you told me not to marry that other guy

but you wouldn't tell me why

all you had to say was that

you loved me too

Then again my heart broke

when I left that other guy

and you said that we couldn't go back

to the way things were before

even knowing that

I still loved you so

So years went by and I moved away

always thinking what it could've

been like if you had only said

that you loved me too

but instead I locked it away in my heart

And so I found someone new

but never forgot about you

and for awhile everything was fine

until one day too curious for my own good

I started looking for you

I found you again and what joy

filled my heart though I knew

we would always be apart

I thought I could handle that

until I unlocked my heart

Now I look at your picture everyday

and wish that the years could

melt away and things could be

once again as they used to be

and all the time my heart breaks

because I do still love you

So much emotion in this piece! It's hard to move on when a love you have is still buried inside the heart. Nicely written!
