At a Crossroads

At a Crossroads

A Poem by MissVixen

She starred out her bedroom window,

Looking at the road that lay neatly before her home

A crossroads, leading in two separate directions,

And she had traveled them both once before

But now she was faced with a choice

For today she would have to pick which road to take

One led to the right,

The other to the left

And both had two different things

Waiting at the end

To the right was a world,

A world filled with confusion

Full of twists and turns,

Hills that seem to lead nowhere

Forests hiding secrets untold

One she loved to tread towards

For the excitement it always had to offer

She remembers the boy reaching out for her hand

His soft skin making contact with hers,

Oh how she missed his dark eyes meeting with hers as well

He would always pull away,

Leaving her confused

Scorn her when she did nothing wrong

Making her want him more

Only to find out ways she could improve herself

For she was used to this type of world

A world filled with confusion and excitement

All she had to do

Was to go right

But what about the left

She thought as she starred the other way

Her forehead lightly pressed against the window screen

For to the left there was a beginning

Something new just waiting for her to try

Things she had never seen before

A straight path

Clear skies with nothing blocking the road

Someone new to make her smile

Someone new to hold her close

Someone to make her feel complete again

To make promises that both of them knew

They wouldn’t be able to keep

And yet….she looked back

To the path on the right

She walked outside into the cold October air

Watching the leaves fall around her

She walked right up to the crossroads

Starred down each of them and sighed

She looked ahead of her

Where there was no road

Only grassy lands and sky

Birds singing a soft song

Yet everything was at a standstill

Making the choice harder

For there was no road in the middle

This meant she had to choose between,

The right or the left

If only I could fly away

To avoid this decision

She thought to herself

When she knew she had to make a choice

There she stood at the crossroads

The one on the right pulling her

While the other to left

Enticed her

All she could do is stand there

Wishing someone would help her make

The first step on the crossroads

In the right direction

There always a fear of the unknown. I like the way it had been written

I can feel the silent frustration and the state being unable to define who you are and where you'll be. Despite the difficulty, I believe even this kind of time, just standing before two roads, has its own sense of beauty and serenity. I've written something similar once. Good write. Keep it up.

although the road to the right maybe not exactly what we want, it provides a safe feeling because we know it so well. while the unknown, is well, unknown. While it provides intrigue, excitement and wonderment, it also brings the fear of that very unknown. a nice piece of work here

I hate being in that situation: Yes or No, Right Or Left, There's no going-back and no escaping... But you know, that's how the life have to be because we can't live in the middle, in the brink... Sometimes we need to be bold enough and never ever choose the succumb, COZ that choice is the only way to finish your life ^^
Your poem (or better to say story) 's so true

I like it. Perhaps it could use some minor editing, but I think it's pretty good this way. I like the last two stanzas most, yet it's definitely a well-penned piece
