![]() TrappedA Poem by MissVixenYou’re sick She told me I starred at her blankly What do you mean….I’m sick? She didn’t respond Simply turned away and took notes in my file Walked outside And never came back I remember the days I could get up whenever I wanted Just roll out of bed without a care Go down and eat whatever I could grab Lounge in front of the television for hours Or play on the computer But never read That was the last thing I wanted to do To stay put To be held back and not move for what seemed like hours That was what reading symbolized for me A trap that should be avoided at all costs Middle school, Judgmental times No more watching television for hours on end Playing on the computer But more reading…a lot more Slowly I fell into the trap Till one day I got my foot caught And then the other Soon unable to escape You’re flatfooted What does that mean? You have no arch, you feet hurt when you run And your ankles twist when you walk Which could be dangerous, and could cause an easy sprain Yeah, I’m in the trap now I was stuck on the couch Left alone to read Eh, it’s only my feet Could be worse right? You’re sick The words rang loud in my ear So loud I didn’t even hear the nurse call to me Telling me it was time to go I didn’t bother to ask I hate being tied down I had fallen deeper into the trap Unable to escape it now My parents can’t help All I can depend on is what I read Only to discover that reading is my only escape And the way I fell into the trap Was through creation And not knowing enough © 2010 MissVixen |
