The Huntress

The Huntress

A Poem by Sophie A. Carroll

She abideth in

the golden grass

preparing to slay

the prey who lies

unknowing beside the

Jujube tree.

Her yellow eyes fixed

patiently upon him

dressed by the richness

and the fullness

of lunar light.

The tigress

a benign beast

to keep her bond

chaunteth a grateful song

as strength and

hunger bore down.

An accord to her kind

she bursts from the darkness

and claws latch onto

flesh.

Fresh with life

Fresh with death

Hear the cry of absolution.
