Veneni Virtute

Veneni Virtute

A Poem by Nina St. Moritz
"

A rewrite of my "Poisons of Power" poem as a villanelle

"

Listen and heed the warning we speak

Power always leaves scars that will last

Magic gives much but more does it wreak

We are the forces of the mystique

No start, no end, in future, in past

Listen and heed the warning we speak

No matter the spell looking so sleek

Even the simplest wish you cast

Magic gives much but more does it wreak

Perfume of incense and dead man’s reek

In this world flat and that realm vast

Listen and heed the warning we speak

Despite your desires of something meek

Each charm you use has chaos amassed

Magic gives much but more does it wreak

Fear of the strong and tool of the weak

Fathom the folly of what you ask

Listen and hear the warning we speak

Magic gives much but more does it wreak.
