Welcome to the World.

Welcome to the World.

A Poem by Krista Everson

Sheltered, warm, untouched
Eyes are closed, not quite able to see
Knows no definitions
Completely pure
Only knows the security of this shelter
Time remains still...
Until a blast of light breaks through
An unknown place,
With unfamiliar sounds
Cold air fills the space
Eyes become open
Over-stimulation all encompassing
Overwhelmed, without clarity
The barrier is broken
What was known became the unknown
To scream is the only reaction
Welcome to the world,
A scary place when eyes are closed;
A beautiful place when eyes are open,
When everything is just new.
