Chapter 28 [Ana]

Chapter 28 [Ana]

A Chapter by Isabella Ballman

I walk into my new work place. It’s a large, apartment like thing. When I walk in it looks sort of like a hospital.

“Can I help you, ma’am?” A young receptionist says. She looks bored, and her curly sand colored hair is in a bun.

“Oh, yes thank you,” I say, walking up in front of the desk. “Actually I think I’m supposed to start working here today.”

         “Name please?”

“Ana Johnson.” I say, smiling at her, trying to be friendly. She tries to return the smile, but she looks more or less rather annoyed.

Suddenly, a big, naked black man runs into me, knocking me to the floor. His whole body is wet. I look at him, wide eyed.

“NEW GIRL! NEW GIRL! NEW GIRL!” He shouts, and then gets off me. He starts to run again. Two men run my way.

“TONY! YOU NEED TO FINISH YOUR BATH!” One of them shouts and runs towards his direction. The other one helps me up. I look into his eyes as he pulls me up, and they practically penetrate my soul. One of them is blue, and the other is a hazelish color. He’s the most amazing thing I’ve ever seen. His hair is kind of short and brown, and he looks like a f*****g prince!

“Thanks.” I say, brushing myself off, but I can’t brush off the water all over me. My face turns red because he’s so hot.

“Wow.” He says sweetly. I wait to see what he says next, mystified by him, smiling into his eyes. “You’re f****n’ smokin’! I’d love to have you in the sack!” I look at him, disappointed and angry.

“Wow, really Drew?” The receptionist says behind me. We both turn to her.

“I’m June. This retard right here, this is my brother Drew.”

“Thanks, June. Thanks for that. Love you little sis!” He says, sarcastically, in a low voice. June types some things on her computer, with an evil smile on her face, and then hands me some papers. “Sign these please, Miss Johnson.”

I sign them right away. Then she takes out a camera and flashes my face. Does some more stuff on her computer, and hands me a nametag thing around a necklace.

“Here ya go. Welcome to your worst nightmare.” She says, bluntly.

“You too!” I say, for some reason. I’m so smart. Drew chuckles.

“Well, now that your all ‘signed up’ you better go change, because even though I’d much rather you stay in those wet clothes, you got to get to work.” He says, and guides me too the girls locker room. I roll my eyes at him, scoffing. As he leads me, he snakes his arm around my shoulder.

“Ew, get off me!” I say, shoving him.

“What? I bet you can’t resist the Drew charm.”

“I hate sexist guys like you!” I bite back at him.

“Whatever.” He says chuckling. “NEW GIRL!” He suddenly yells in my face, and then walks off.

         What a freak!

I walk into the girl’s locker room, and an immediate smell of sweat enters my nose. All the women I see seem to be at least 30. Right away, a middle-aged woman takes my shoulders.

“The new girl!” She says. “I’m Sylvia. Welcome to the team!” She’s pretty, with black hair and ivory skin, but with wrinkles to spare.

“Oh! Thank you! I’m Ana.” I say back.

“I see Tony got to you.” A voice behind me says. I turn, and see a tall woman standing behind me. She looks about the same age as Sylvia, maybe a little younger.

“Get used to it, toots. First of many retards that are going to tackle you.” She says, walking towards me. Her hair is auburn, and her face looks like it’s been botoxed a billion times. She’s smoking.

“I’m Jean, and you’re going to hate it here.” She adds.

“I’ll uh, make a note of that.” I say. All the ladies start laughing. I don’t know why, that wasn’t even funny.

Somebody hands a uniform to me. It’s blue scrubs. I walk into the bathroom and change, not wanting to show my body of a bunch of other people, especially because of my scar. The scrubs are about two sizes to big but I don’t want to complain on my first day so I don’t tell anyone.

I walk into the kitchen, and see people eating. Some of them, you can really tell they have disabilities. Others, not at all. To my left I see a table of old men singing with each other. To my right, I see a table of quiet young ladies, and I decide to sit by them. I grab some food, which doesn’t look even slightly edible, and sit down. All 4 stare at me.

         “Um, Hi. I’m Ana.”

“You work here now?” One of the girls says, in a raspy voice. She has black straight, greasy hair.

“Yes! Yes I do.” I say, smiling at them, trying to be friendly.

“Why the f**k are you so damn cheery?” Another one of them says, her voice kind of sounding like a mans. “You’re sitting by a bunch of retarded kids.”

“Mary! Don’t say that! You’re scaring her.” Says the third girl, with big glasses and curly hair.  She’s hunched over her back, slouching majorly.

“Oh, um, I guess I just wanted to get to know you guys.” I say in a lower voice.

“I’m Shay,” Says the one with glasses. “The bitchy one is Mary.”

“I’m Fiona.” Says the girl with the greasy black hair. At the end of the table sits the 4th girl. She has short blonde hair.

“That’s Carly. She’s shy.” Says Shay.

“Well, it’s nice to meet you guys.” I tell them.

“Well that sounds fun! I think you’ll like this job.” Reeve says. I came over to his place after work. Along with Reeve and I, Ashley sits on the couch with us. Alex is picking out a movie.

“I really hope so.” I say. “I mean, so far, I love it!”

“Any luck finding a movie Alex?” Ashley butts in.

“How about Broke Back Mountain?” Alex says. I look at Reeve and he looks at me.

“Amazing movie.” Reeve says. “Lets do it!”

“F**k no!” Ashley says. We all look at him. “That movies f*****g gay! It makes me sick.”

“Dude, come on. Grow up. Put it in Alex.” Reeve says. Alex does as she was told, and sits to the chair on the right of their comfy couch.

“I’m not staying here for his s**t.” Ashley says, standing up.

“Then leave, bro. Go somewhere else.” He says. Ashley storms out of the place.

“Ashley’s such a homophobe. It’s obnoxious.” Reeve states.

“Yeah really.” Alex says. “He gets like that whenever we talk about gay people, or anything like that.”

         “I wonder why…” I say.

“Oh well. He’ll be back in a couple of hours. Lets watch our movie.” Reeve says. During the movie we entangled our hands together, never letting go once.
