Sleepover (Prologue)

Sleepover (Prologue)

A Chapter by Misled Legend
"

The deck is shuffled...

"

It was the middle of September and school was already in full swing.  Luckily it was Friday night and Ashley Wells decided to drop by for a sleepover.   Not only that but she was carrying one of those boards that you can ‘supposedly’ contact spirits and such with.

“You could have warned me beforehand!”

She smiled.  “Now what would be the fun of that?”

Ashley had a point there, and she knew it.

“Mirae!  Let’s try this out!”

I sighed and with a reluctant nod we started experimenting with it.  We sat cross legged on the floor and with the game between us, the fun began.

“Is someone here with us this evening?” asked Ash in an over-exaggerated whisper.

The plastic piece move to yes.

My eyes narrowed at Ash who looked slightly shocked.

Another question from Ashley, “Are you male or female?”

Male.

“Age?”

It never answered so we went to another question.  “Are you going to hurt either one of us?”

Ashley rolled her eyes, though we both turned to each other when it replied with, “Why would I hurt you of all people?”

Something made me question this crap.  “Are you living or dead?”

At first the guy was quiet then explained itself.

“That would depend on who you ask.”

And that’s where we said goodbye to whatever this was.

“Good night and sweet dreams.”

We hurried off to sleep freaked beyond all reason.

It was night in my dream and I was walking to the top of the hill overlooking a village in full festival mode, and cherry blossoms were blowing in the wind.  This was one of my favorite types of dreams, the ones with calm and serene landscapes.  However, this did not last long for the scene quickly became twisted.

The once pale pink blossoms became a brilliant red as if it was painted with fresh blood and looking back to the village was just as bad.  The buildings were burning yet thankfully no one was around.  The whitish-blue flames seemed to stretch toward the sky and I remember running deeper into the forest in search of something.  Tree branches grabbed at my clothing as I rushed past the amused laughter and the things following me with their eyes.

My ever graceful form tripped over a large root and I collapsed on the ground.  As I climbed to my feet, I sensed that there was someone or something moving in the shadows around me.

“So…  You are Mirae Tamesis?  Can’t believe that…”

Half of me wanted to get away from whoever or whatever this man was and the other half was all but demanding to know more.

“How do you know my name?”

The man laughed.  “Oh I know much more than simply your name, little one.  Far too much actually.”

My legs were shaking as I stood up and turned to where the voice came from.  “Whatever, man.  Besides isn’t it rude to not introduce yourself first to a lady?”

Silence ruled for a moment before I saw a hooded figure leave the darkest and bow.  “Please forgive me, Lady Mirae.”  I didn’t know if he was being seriously apologetic or merely being sarcastic and I didn’t ask.  “My name is Keir.”

“It’s nice to meet you.”

Keir stood up and nodded his head happily.  “You should be getting up soon.”

I awoke to Ashley looking at me strangely.  “So who is Keir?”

“He’s my servant thingy.  I am a proper lady after all!”

We both laughed up a storm at that since it is far from the truth.  Once she calmed down Ashley headed back to sleep leaving me wondering...

“What was up with that dream?”

Ignore grammar problems etc. This is just a potential prologue for an even more hesitant story. Blame the Tarot Cards (which I will get into later.)

Wow!
It's a really interesting start of the story, it makes me wonder what connection the characters have with Keir.
The imagery you invoked was really nice too, espicially the description of the scene suddenly changing.
The only that bothered me was the size of the font but its really good!
Keep it up^^
