Healing A Shattered Soul - Lucien

 

They beat me down

Broke my spine

Tore away my soul

Raped my thoughts

And desecrated my body

 

Made me inhuman

And made me inhumane

 

And still

In the end l fight

For the endless right to breathe

Even when I'm too tired to live

Too tired to believe

 

Just stay with me

Holding me up

Lend me your

Not unwavering strength

 

Just tell me

You'll be there

 

Slow steps to healing

I'll take them

Without grace

Wearing a careful smile

Afraid to let you in

Afraid to let anyone in

Lest suddenly l find myself

On the receiving end again

 

And still

Afraid to be away from you

Away from the safety you've given me

The security of knowing

You care

The knowledge that

You'll do your best to be there

 

My support fell away

You picked it up

And took me back

To the therapy l was so afraid of

 

You wouldn't let me

Defeat myself.
