Something Cool for RemembranceA Poem by MiriamMBNostalgia, remembrance of old friends, old lives, memories that do not feel like memories at all.Sweet friend Skin like the darkest harvest Of honey when the sun is wiping salt from it’s eyes And the forest is covered in dew Eyes so bright I could never get lost in any darkness When you were near. If I had known I would be leaving you If I had known I would be gone for so long That I would forget the scent of talcum on your skin I would have found the best clay behind the University in Bomso We would have sat for hours crafting ways to remember Between our finger tips A bead for each memory A bead for each pearly smile Each hand held in mine Each word of reassurance I would have strung my beads around your neck And you would have strung yours around mine The coolness of the clay around our necks Would have urged us to remember Each day we were away And our names would not have felt as foreign on each other’s tongues as they do now © 2012 MiriamMB |
