Chapter 6

Chapter 6

A Chapter by Miranda

Stormbird led his pack far away from the vile Earth wolves. They came to know the pack as the Blood Lust Mountain Pack. When Stormbird and the rest of the pack sensed that they had left the Blood Lust Pack’s territory they stopped to take a short break and decide on they planned on doing next.

“What are we going to do now?” Aurora asked.

“I know what we’re not going to do. Its go back into that territory. Did you see the shape that those she-wolves were in? If I were a she-wolf in that pack I won’t let some male wolf oppress me like that,” Starlight growled.

“Well I think that we should worry about our own pack for now,” Shadowfire advised.

Starlight huffed. “What are we going to do now anyway?”

“We are first going to find something to eat. I’m sure that you’ve all worked up an appetite then we are going to find a place to sleep,” Stormbird stated.

Seasong stepped forward. “What about finding a territory?” she asked.

Stormbird looked at her. “That will have to wait for now.”

“It can’t wait for too long. I sense that winter will be coming here soon,” Frostbite inquired.

“I’ll take that into consideration. Thank you for telling me Frostbite,” Stormbird said.

“What if we find that we are hunting in another pack’s territory?” Sunstar asked in a shaky voice.

“Then they’ll just have to get over it,” Soulseeker impatiently said before turning to Stormbird. “Are we going hunting or what?”

Stormbird nodded and sniffed the air. The rest of the pack scattered and did the same. “I’ve found something!” Aurora yipped excitedly. The rest of the pack went over to where she was standing.

Stormbird caught the scent of a caribou herd. “You did indeed find something. Take the lead Aurora,” he ordered.

Aurora took off at a brisk pace following the scent. Stormbird stuck close to her flank and followed with the rest of the pack behind them. The wolves soon came to an open field; there was indeed a large herd of caribou grazing in the clearing. Stormbird crouched low to the ground and motioned with his tail for Seasong to go scout. He watched as her sandy pelt moved through the undergrowth. A few of the caribou had spotted her but didn’t take her as a threat. Seasong slid up next to Stormbird.

“There is an injured bull standing off not too far away from the herd,” she reported.

Stormbird flicked his tail and led the pack to where Seasong had mentioned seeing the bull. He spotted the bull grazing and every time it moved it would limp. Stormbird silently ordered his pack to get into position. He waited until just the right moment before he flicked his tail. The entire pack charged at the herd sending them into frenzy. The herd took off at top speed. While Sunstar, Soulseeker, and Eclipse kept the rest of the herd moving. Stormbird and the others hung back to catch the limping bull when he grew tired. They didn’t have to wait long.

The limping bull slowed down until it trailed far behind the herd. Knowing that it wouldn’t be able to catch up; the bull turned and faced the wolves. The six remaining wolves moved around the bull snarling and snapping at it. On Stormbird’s cue, Starlight and Shadowfire snapped at the bull’s legs; one instantly broke. The bull collapsed to the ground with one hind leg broken and the other one being the one he was limping with. The wolves pounced and finished the bull off quickly with a bite to the throat. By then, Sunstar, Eclipse, and Soulseeker had returned. The Elemental wolves howled of their first kill on Earth before they dug in. When they had all eaten their fill they decided to sleep not too far away from their kill.

Stormbird felt Seasong curl up next to him and the pack settle down around them. Stormbird was content; he had a full belly and led a wonderful pack with a beautiful mate. What wolf could ask for more? He sighed and just before he went to sleep he saw Eclipse and Starlight pacing back and forth restlessly. They kept glancing at the sky. Stormbird knew that this meant that the moon and stars were shining above his head. When he glanced over at Aurora he found that she was sleeping soundly. ‘The northern lights won’t be out tonight then,’ he thought and laid his head back down. He soon found himself engulfed in darkness.
