Sleep Now My DearA Poem by BeeLittle thing I wrote today for my dying pet.Hush now my darling, Sleep now my dear, You've lived a long life, A good life too, You've given us joy, And we've done our best to return the favor. Your paws have grown soft from your gentle past weeks, But your pelt still bears the marks of a life well lived, A long life indeed, the one you've lived. You've earned your rest, You've earned our loving tears, You've earned it all through all these years. So take now a lullaby, not of song, But of heart, We weep now as you gently depart, And may every tear only lull you to sleep, For they are but tokens to show the love which you've wrought, From our hard human hearts. So sleep now my dear, Rest is ever so near, We'll miss you it's true, And now the memories you've sown in our minds bring naught but pain, But time will soon make them joyous again. So sleep now my dear, There's nothing to fear, Rest your weary head, And let this world drift away, We'll be here a bit longer than you, But eventually we all earn our rest through and through. © 2014 BeeAuthor's Note
