Put On A Face

Just a passing thought.

A smile seems to be the only acceptable expression
So every day I make sure I do
But my smile is hollow one
Just a front to hide what I'm really feeling inside

Every day I put on that face
But I still find myself in that place
Because inside I've got so much to hide
I want to cry and let it out, but it's within society I reside

When you're feeling down
Just put on a face, never frown
Keep your emotions to yourself
Make sure you never let your pain show

Put on a face
Everyone does
Because we're not allowed to let anyone know
How we feel inside, so we always need to hide

Put on a face, be the norm
Put on a face, make sure you conform
Put on a face, don't let them see
Put on a face, never be all you can be

Just a passing thought. Brought on by my math teacher reprimanding me for looking too sad of all things. Thank you for reading my work.

I like this cute, sweet little poem. It is well written and it rhymes well. I think this explains conformity well and how our society puts on a golden mask. I especially like:

I read your "Conform To a Mascaraed Play"(sorry I can't do italics for the title, I'm on an iPad right now) which to me felt like it was about a very similar concept, except it was told in a more abstract way, which I thought was very cool.
