Only Friend

Only Friend

A Chapter by Marcy Chavez

He couldn’t think about something else but talk to the only guy who had been friends with him during the past months, Jason. He had called him and asks him to meet at the park to talk. Jason was worried about the way Robert’s voice sounded, he had never heard him this down and upset before. As Jason was on his way to the park he kept thinking about what had possibly go wrong with Robert, the first thing he thought of was, that maybe he had broken up with Nerissa.

“Hey Robert, I came as soon as I could man, what’s happening?” Jason asked Robert putting his hand on his shoulder.

But Robert couldn’t even start talking, he nervously run his fingers thru his hair and walked from one side to the other making Jason worry even more.

“Please just tell me, you know you can te"“Jason said and before he could finish talking Robert decided to start speaking.

“I’m leaving back to England” He said so fast that it was almost impossible for Jason to understand him.

“Wait what? “He asked.

Robert stopped his desperate walking around and stood in front of him looking him in the eyes. “I’m leaving, that’s it” He said.

Jason was really shocked about the news and he didn’t know what to think or say to him but he knew he had to say something.

“Well, that’s…sudden” He said, scratching his head. “But when?”

“Sometime before this month ends” Robert said.

The way his voice sounded reflected nothing but pure anger and Jason knew it.

He sighs deeply and looked at Robert.

“But why?” He asked.

“Because my father is nothing but a selfish b*****d who has always care about himself and no one else!” He almost shouts at him.

Jason’s reaction to that was to simply look down and stay quiet. He knew that there were no words that would make him feel better; he only needed to get his feelings out.

“What am I gonna do Jason?” He asked looking at him again. “I cannot do this to Nerissa, not now!” He said as his voice started to break.

“Are you sure there’s no way you can stay?” Jason asked, trying to make it sound better.

Robert nod and sarcastically smiled at him.

“You don’t know my father, he will move an entire army just to force me to go back with them to England, and I hate so much that I can’t take my life in my own hands!”

“I see, are you planning on telling her then?” Jason asked him, afraid to be asking something that could upset him even more.

Robert looked up to the sky and smiled.

“I don’t know, I just promised to her I’d be here for here forever, I promise not to hurt her” He said letting some tears out.

Then Jason started to feel the sadness of his friend and the hard situation he was going through. So he carefully approached him from behind and patted his back.

“I’m sure she’ll understand” He said to Robert.

“I don’t know, I just can’t live without her…I love her so much”

“Maybe you can come back as soon as you can; there must be some way to be with her Robert”

“There is no other way for now Jason, the only way I could do it is if I was an adult and I hate it that I’m not!”

Robert wiped the tears from his eyes and looked at Jason.

“You have to promise me that you will take care of her and will tell me about anything she might need or anything important going on in her life while I’m away. Because I’m not gonna leave her forever, I’m just not”.

“You know you can always count on me dude, for anything” Jason told him, giving him a hug.

“Thank you, I really appreciate it” Robert said.

After talking to Jason he felt as little relieved for getting all that out of his system, but unfortunately there was nothing he could do to avoid going back to England, he had to, but as he had told Jason it was not gonna be for too long.
