More Than This

More Than This

A Poem by Shaun Rudie

dust shifting

side to side sway

a pull,

two hands pulling

upward my

dead weight

- an angel’s

hands

downward thrust

of wing like a curl of

ocean wave

propelling me upward

passing volumes of space

effortless

my breath,

accordion wind

through my teeth,

nose

This is just grand! Whether an actual near-death event, or a spiritual or sensual journey, I love the mood and feel of this piece. I can feel the heaviness, the "dead weight" and I love wondering if the angel hands are real. It feels so real to read. I LOVE "downward thrust/of wing/like a curl of/ocean wave", because it builds tension in me, and then I am propelled upward with you, and I am left with the images of breathing, the "accordion wind".. LOVE THIS PIECE!
