A Poem by Shaun Rudie

one point of light, a star, your

companion

you look over the concrete ledge, it's rough,

harsh as words - hard to fit in

they look on the outside, their eyes

soft touches of wind when you are

turned,

their words; music, for their ears alone

for you

 touches of wind

the ledge holds you, but can’t

absorb your tears like a shoulder with

arms embracing you can

...

the wind embraces you to

the end

Sad jouney you took me on, this piece. I am struck by the images of the natural world used as metaphor --- especially the "touches of wind". You have set up such an idea of pain, yet quite restrained, not revealed except in a soft way: "...their eyes/soft touches of wind..." "their words; music..." You conjur up the image of complete selfishness through this, the softness speaks toward "they" as women...but, nothing is quite clear and that is quite good, because the images you gift me with let me conjur my own inner times when I've had impulses to "jump". the clarity of the concrete ledge is central. That and the wind "to/the end".
