A Poem by Shaun Rudie

I am at a loss without

you

quiet without your words to

inspire me - and that, just

"good morning"

contrast...

everything so hard,

edges on tables,

sand grit,

the flowers in my hands

tears...

they used to be warm,

soft, following your kisses

I find myself rounding my

shoulders, as if to protect

a part of me

the flowers look nice there,

the stone

but I will protect you

now

inside

tears sting

This piece pulls me immediately in to your inner world. And within the theme of loss and tears you give fresh images: The "edges on tables/sand grit/flowers in my hands" to the warm tears, and your rounded shoulders. I like that you said "as if/to protect a part of me" because that lets me know you still feel it all.
I love the contrast of flowers & stone. Perhaps because you keep memories of her protected, though tears at the end sting, this poem left me peaceful.
