To those who have flown the coop The nest always seems to get farther and farther Some things blur and lines thin as vision wanes. The distance is getting greater.
Soon it will be out of sight, But you see something new when you look back. It is bright and strong, but you can't make it out, And you simply can't resist a silent flutter.
Your heart knows that this could be something delightful, Or possibly something horrid, But still you feel the slightest pull, The faintest curiosity.
But, you keep on flying farther and farther. As you go, the desire to see this unknown increases It rises in your chest, And in your mind until it overwhelms.
This thing. What was it? You left, but you suddenly want to return, Only to find that you have lost your way. This thing is now intangible...but it's memory still lives on.
The search is on. If you find it, what will you do?
An accurate choice of metaphors in the poem that creates a natural and living experience of leaving home. Out in the world we eventually overcome our fascination and seem to have the feeling that we are ' it.' The poem has a strong relevance to the people who left their small towns to work in the large cities and reflects the experience of millions today who are returning to their home towns. A wonderful and thoughtful write.

My name is Sydney and I grew up in the Adirondack mountains. I am just now getting into writing a novel, mostly because I have so many crazy ideas and I feel that this time I can compose it into somet.. more..
