Ribboned and stacked

lovingly until discovered,

lusty sentiments uncovered,

musty with age and

tucked in the drawers of

the old steamer trunk.

 

Two hearts once beating

for the other, and sealed with

anticipation, and stamped

for affirmation and

approval until reread by

the finder's curious eyes

 

Each love letter a symbol,

a marker with promises

pouring effusively, yet

vague and hiding a

fountainhead of emotions

forever protected within.

 

Each love letter a blending

of two souls whispering thoughts

we loved and we tried

to leave nothing undone or

unsaid before our time ended

(and the finder's time begun).
