Perched on the seat

Of her birthday bike

In her tomato-soup

Stained sun suit

Playing Follow the

Leader and wondering

Who the man was in

The tee-shirt getting

Out of the blue car

With its convertible top

Hopped off her bike

Petted the dog at her side

That licked her leg

And the back of her hand

Wiped her nose with

The back of her hand

Jumped the squares in the

Hop Scotch chalk squares

On the cracked sidewalk

Looked at the skates on the porch

Stared hard at her house

Knowing she couldn't

Go inside Not yet

Climbed the monkey bars

In the yard next door

When the sun disappeared

She closed her eyes

To the sounds

Those sounds

From inside

Her mom was going to teach her to roller skate today

A very interesting poem. You took the reader to the thoughts of a wise children. I like the description. Create vision of a six year old with wisdom and hope. I like the hopeful ending to the excellent poetry.
