Among the Pines

Among the Pines

A Poem by Millionth Muse

Among the pines,

needle-tipped towers

scraping the sky,

I find symbiotic solace

in the enormity of solitude

Footfalls are feathers

against the forest floor,

for as I walk, my presence

is blotted away by sunshine

and summer squalls

Opposite the weeping river

I cross into confinement,

a clapboard court where

I am no longer a queen,

but a courtesan of the mundane

Gravel roads give way

to hedges and highways,

harbingers of sprawl

that slowly sedate the senses--

but I remember…

I summon in my mind

the path back to clarity,

here--where the water and wind,

the timber and the texture,

transport me to tranquility

What a beautiful, softly written piece..
After a hard day at work, this was the perfect read.

Nicely done my friend!!

For some reason this poem reminds me of Bridge to Terabitha. It is great in it's description of the forest that you are emerging from back to the highways. I love the contrast between the highway and the forest. One seem so peaceful and the other seems so hectic and busy. You have painted a truly spectacular painting before my eyes.

Lovely, I want to be there. I think you painted a scene in this one that brought the moment to life for me.

Your use of nature as a teacher is wonderful... you paint the most beautiful scene that the black and white print turns to color in my mind.
