Waterfront at Daybreak

Waterfront at Daybreak

A Poem by Millionth Muse
"

I like to take walks...

"

Crossing the time-forgotten bay,

a single boat meets the morning,

salt-scalded and peeling,

lit by the long legs of the sun

stepping slowly across

quietly rippling water.

Seabirds swim through the air,

dipping and diving, following

the fishermen’s wake, like children

fighting for the last piece of sweets;

one steals a bit of fish from

the bait basket and disappears,

another moves in to take its place.

Along the dock lines, my footsteps

leave no trace on the weathered wood,

covered in the oils of fish innards

and glistening scales, and I breathe

deeply of the heady scent

that belongs only to this place,

strangely comforting, oddly consoling.

Oh, I love this one! I'm a great lover of all things oceanic...lighthouses, sealife, ships, boats, fishermen, islands; you name it and I'm sure I have written a poem about it! lol But I love this,
"covered in the oils of fish innards

and glistening scales, and I breathe

deeply of the heady scent

that belongs only to this place,

strangely comforting, oddly consoling."

I love the stark reality and honesty of the words. Excellent.

I absolutely loved this poem, particularly because it was grammatical error-free. :) If anything, you might have had a few too many commas, but that is acceptable in the world of poetry. Your imagery was gorgeous. Well done.

How you paint such a soothing scene line by line, completing a most peaceful canvass. I can see the beauty of waves, hear the seabirds, feel the tranquility that arises here. So beautifully done and enriching to the reader!

This poem is like a breath of fresh air... the words so calming and soothing...

lit by the long legs of the sun
stepping slowly across
quietly rippling water

I was really moved by this part, it shows how sensual the purity of nature can be.
