Being Different

Being Different

A Poem by Nur Syamilah
"

I guess this is a poem about bullying, suicide or not being accepted into society for who you are. So, it's about the bad side of society in the eyes of a victim. No, I was not bullied or suicidal.

"
I was born into this world,
Like every other human being,
To grow up and live a life happily,
Not to receive several beatings.

I was an outcast and left rejected,
I don't really know why,
Am I not "human" enough?
Or is your  goal to make me cry?

The world is very cruel,
It's deceiving and ugly,
You're forced to be a clone,
In exchange for more money.

You're not told to be who you are,
You're told to change and transform,
Into someone completely different,
From the one you were born.

It's not just the appearance,
Or the way you talk,
Not just how you behave,
Or how you walk.

Most people misjudge,
And accuse the innocent,
For things that never happened,
Whether it's the past or present.

When was the last time I was happy?
Or actually enjoyed going to school?
When did I last go through a day,
Without being called a fool?

I had friends who stood by,
But they all left me in the end,
Afraid of getting involved,
Afraid of being my friend.

Crying is an understatement,
Of what I did at home,
I always drowned out the voices,
And the ringing of the phone.

Is being different such a crime,
That we're pushed to the edge?
Until we finally stumble and fall,
And leave the life we've lead.

I never felt this much pain,
Going through each and every day,
Just trying to live a normal life,
To study and to play.

What if on one particular day,
I got sick of it all?
Will you then stop your dirty habits,
Or will you let me fall?

This is a GREAT piece. 'Epic' would be an understatement for this poem. The message this sends out is extremely powerful. Look at what you hear in the news these days; people being killed because they are different. This is what you call poetry, ladies and gentlemen! You also did a fantastic job with the title, and the rhyming scheme is on point. I like to pick out my favorite line, but there's too many of them (that's how good this poem is)! Definitely going on my favorites!

Looking forward to reading more from you!

That was really, really good. Every word flowed really well making it a very smooth read!
I felt like it touched on issues that probably everyone has felt a few times but also easily explained how (I'm struggling to put my thoughts into words so sorry if this doesn't make sense :P) it relates to depression and how it is different
Also, I really loved the 10th stanza, it reads really nicely and it sort of puts the cause with the outcome the particular person is thinking about!
Anyway, overall, I just really loved it :)
