Syrup

Syrup

A Poem by EMMMIIILLLIIIO

Syrupy

By Emilio Romo

Floppy, soggy pancakes,

easy to tear,

too sweet for the tooth.

For they have sat in syrup far too long.

Wet sweet sweet pancakes,

form dented by the sticky sauce

and melted butter is left swimming in the syrup pool.

No one will eat such a dish,

only three bites in and too sweet to consume,

no one is at the table.

The only thing that remains are these soggy, floppy,

extremely sweet, butter induced drowned out pancakes.

The minimum wage busboy stares sadly

at the floppy, extremely sweet, butter induced, soggy, drowned out pancakes.

A once grand meal now only to be discarded,

as the plate is collected with the silverware,

the busboy leads the departure of the remnants of a meal fit for kings.

Slid of its porcelain throne to a place where pancakes alike are placed,

with a sweet bitter cringing smell.

The flies appreciate such a meal.

The once abandoned pancakes found it company,

purpose finally fulfilled.
