HomeA Chapter by Bebi Deru
Ara went to the bottom of the stairs and called "Kora! Are you here?" There was no answer from Kora's room. Ara sighed and clutched her arm closer, her breathing came in rapid bursts. She knew she had to get a rag to stauch the bleeding. She went into the kitchen and heard a growl come from the pantry. Ara stopped and looked at the pantry door. It shuddered lightly on its hinges.
Ara took another step forward, she stopped and looked at the rack on the wall, where her mother puts the rags before using them. She took the Christmas print one and wrapped it around her arm. She gritted her teeth as she tiend the rag. She screamed in her throat as it started to throb.
Today wasn't supposed to go this way. She thought to herself. I was supposed to go on a date with my hotter then hot boyfriend Sam. Ara knew she was getting mad so she breathed in and out as if she was meditating. She took one more step towards the pantry and it shuddered. Ara squeaked and took a step back.
"Who ever you are I have a shotgun!" Ara yelled at the door, it shuddered again but with more force this time. She than heard a bark. What the?
She went up to the door, opening it slowly and right in front of her was her huskie, Mishka. Ara knelt and hugged Mishka, burying her face in fur. "Oh Mishka, I was wondering we're you were!" Then came a crash from upstairs. Ara stiffened as Mishka wiggled out of her arms and ran upstairs. "Mishka! No! Come back here!"
Mishka started to bark, Ara got up and slowly made her way to the stairs. Ara put her left foot on the first step. "Mishka! Come back!" Ara could still hear her barking. She took the stairs one step at a time, cradling her hurt arm to her chest. Damn it Mishka! Ara yelled in her head. Why can't you listen to me!
She heard a roar and suddenly Mishka wined then became quite. Ara ran up the steps and yelled. "Mishka!" Ara saw her door cracked open, she silently made her way to the door, her footsteps muffled by the area rugs. She walked up to her bedroom door and peered inside. Ara gasped and covered her mouth with her hand. Tears started to swell in her hazel eyes. In the creature's mouth was Mishka's limp and bloody body. Blood started to pool onto the floor. Ara watched as the creature tore into Mishka's body, eating every thing. Ara opened the door silently and flicked on the light.
The creature had skin the color of stone, it's wings like a bats, it's eyes were the color of a new ember, It's horns the shape of the Jersey Devils. Ara knew what the creature was. A picture of a church flickered into her mind and she whispered.
"Gargoyle."
