Lost battle

Thus,the blood stained lips were again forced to smile,
With trails of tears on cheeks longer than Nile.
The heart beat staggered but held on,
Struggling through dusk, waiting for dawn.
Knotted fingers, quivering legs,
Bent on knees, the forlorn soul begs.
Begs for a ray of light,
Begs for its world alight.
Wavering breath, promises not kept,
Heart was numb but the eyes wept.
