Chapter 26

When I woke up, Sasuke was gone, the mess from last night had been cleaned up and Yuki was curled up in a chair by my bedside. I blinked and looked out the window, it was morning. A thought flashed in my mind and I jumped out of bed.

“HOLY CRAP! THE EXAMS ARE TODAY!” I yelled as I ran to my dresser, pulling out a pair of Sasuke’s clothes and yanking them on as I hopped through the doorway and into the kitchen.

“Uh? Misa? What’s going on?” Yuki asked groggily as he wiped his eyes.

I flashed a look at him and he straightened up. “I’ll tell you what’s going on!! I’m going to be late for the exams! Why did you let me sleep in like that?!” I snarled.

Yuki straightened up. “Sorry! I just thought you’d want to get some sleep after...What happened last night...” He trailed.

I stopped and turned my back on him. “How much do you remember?” I asked, thinking absentmindedly about how I released all of the information I learned to Sasuke while Yuki was standing right next to him.

I’m such an idiot...I thought bitterly.

“Everything.” He said emotionlessly.

I stiffened and walked towards the door. “Are you afraid? This is your chance to run.” I said, flinging the door open and motioning for him to run.

He shook his head. “No! I already knew what you were...Well...I knew that you were a Dragon not...Anyways. It doesn’t matter to me!” He said briskly.

I frowned. “Why are you being to polite? Jeeze. You’re acting like a soldier being sent off to war.” I said rubbing my neck.

He faltered and relaxed a little. “Sorry I-”

“Forget that!! Crap! I’m late!” I interrupted, grabbing my ninja tools and darting out the door.

“Misa! Wait for me!” I heard Yuki yell as I ran down the street.

I heard him running behind me as he fought to keep up but I couldn’t stop.

D****t! If I’m late then the whole team will be disappointed! I thought angrily. Hey, calm down already. I’m here, everything will be fine. Ryuu said smoothly.

I faltered slightly in my step and almost toppled over.

Hey! Don’t do that!! I yelled mentally as I stabilized myself. Do what? I didn’t DO anything. He laughed. I sighed and ran faster, towards the bridge where we meet. Hey...Aren’t you freaked out at all by what we learned yesterday? I asked nervously. Of course I am...In fact. I’m freakin terrified. I’m just way to cool to let you see that side of me though. He said casually. I felt my lips go into a frown. I’m sorry...It’s my fault you’re like this...I’m so sorry...If I hadn’t...I’ll find a way to fix you I- You what? How is it your fault? For helping me when I was crying on that street corner? I didn’t have a family, I had no friends, no one to take me in. And then you came in...If you hadn’t helped me I guarantee I would’ve died that night. As for being like this...Well...It does suck a lot to have a spirit of death implanted in you...And being turned to liquid and then shoved into your body sucked pretty badly to but...Now...We can stay together. Just like friends are supposed to. He said blankly. Don’t say that. You’re mad, I can tell. You thought you were an all knowing magical dragon and then it turns out that you’re a person...With a spirit inside him...Don’t you ever say you’re ok with this, because I know you’re not! My parents did a terrible thing, it’s my fault for not being able to see it before it was to late. If I would’ve done something...Maybe you would still have your body...I trailed miserably. I still have a body. He said. I snorted, My body doesn’t count moron. I wasn’t talking about your body. I have a body still. The voice told me I do. And she told me that if we trained and I could harness enough power then I can materialize my body outside of your body. I could walk around in it and talk in it and everything. The only downside is that you feel everything I feel so if I get stabbed your gonna be in a whole lot of pain. He said quietly.

Wait...You mean your body can come out of me? That’s super freaky man...I trailed. He was quiet. Will it hurt me to? I don’t know...That’s why I’m so cautious to learn about it... He said blankly.

I clenched my fists and put on a confident face. I don’t care. We’re going to learn it and you’re going to have a body...Sort of...No matter what...I’m going to make it so you live as much as a normal life as possible. I said strongly. As normal a life as possible? Dude, you’re talking to your best friend who was tortured like crap and had a death spirit forced in his body. And on top of all that, he was turned into a liquid and injected into your body, all of his memories erased and half dead. Dude, this is as normal as it gets. He laughed.

I felt a twitch of sadness in my gut. What’s wrong? He asked. It’s just...It’s kinda awkward...Here I was hating you for making me kill my parents and my clan but...It turned out to be me instead...And I always hated you for the head aches I kept getting but I guess it’s not from you...It’s probably from something else...And...In that flashback the voice showed me...You were pretty hot as a 6 year old...I wonder what you look like now...I trailed. Dude...Your asking me how hot I am? Why? You interested? He said smugly. I stiffened and felt my face get red. Shu-Shut up!! Jerk!! i said hurriedly. He was quiet.

“Hey!! Can you slow down!!” Yuki yelled from behind me.

I blinked and glanced at him, “Oh, sorry. I forgot you were back there.” I laughed as I slowed down.

He pulled up beside me, running at an even pace as he panted. “Jeeze...By the way you were running you’d think this was a race.” He gasped.

I laughed again.

Blood. Ryuu muttered. I blinked and faced forward. What? It’s blood. That’s why you get so many head aches. I get them to. It’s because we need to have blood. Ryuu muttered. I laughed a little. Dude, we have plenty of blood inside us, I’m pretty sure we don’t need anymore. I chuckled.

I signaled to Yuki and we jumped up into the trees, leaping from limb to limb as we approached the bridge. I could see Sasuke, Sakura and Naruto waiting for me.

No. That’s not what I meant. I mean...Remember what your voice said? All it needs for us to repay it for bringing us back was blood...Right? That’s why...The death spirit sealed inside me needs blood to live...It must’ve been feeding off your blood all these years...That’s why you get headaches...Because of blood loss, your body just can’t generate blood fast enough to replace it all. Ryuu explained shortly. Ok...Then I’ll just live with it. I said stubbornly. No, you’ll die really early if you do that...So will I... He trailed dramatically. I rolled my eyes. Stop being a drama queen and tell me what your point is already. I scoffed. We need to drink other peoples blood to live. He stated bluntly.

“WHAT???” I said out loud.

“Misa! Look out!” Yuki yelled beside me.

I felt my stomach collide with one of the lower branches, the wind whooshing out of me as I slid off the edge and fell flat on my back. When I opened my eyes Naruto was staring down at me.

“Hey...Are you ok?” He asked.

I stood up shakily and rubbed my back. “Yeah.

“Wow. You sure know how to make an entrance. Are you sure you’re a ninja?” Sasuke smirked to my right.

I laughed. “Don’t know...I am strong enough to send you crying home though. Aren’t I?” I chuckled.

He was quiet.

I stretched and cracked my back, sighing with relief and straightening up, looking at Sasuke. “Did you tell Kiba?”

He nodded.

“And?”

“He really needs to talk to you. And so do I. Can we talk for a minute? Just you and me?” He asked.

I heard Sakura gasp next to him as she narrowed her gaze at me.

I closed my eyes and laughed, “Nah. I don’t want to talk to you more than I have to right now.” I said truthfully.

I heard Sakura basically explode with rage.

“Are you stupid?! She has to be stupid!! Sasuke wants to talk with her...ALONE! And she turns him down?! I can’t believe this! That should be me Sasuke wants to sneak away with and make out with!!” She yelled.

We were all quiet for a few seconds.

“Umm...You just said that out loud and...Who said I would even think about liking that kind of guy? Seriously. I can do better.” I said, trying to hold back a laugh.

I heard Sasuke say something under his breath and ignored him, letting out a big sigh and putting my arms on the bridge’s railing, staring into the water.

So we need to drink blood? I said nervously. Yep. That seems to be the jist of it... Ryuu said casually. And you’re ok with this?! I said in disgust. Hey, don’t get me wrong. It’s fricken disgusting and who knows what kind of aids we’ll get from this but...Truthfully? It’s gonna sound pretty freaking bad a*s when I tell people I drink blood for breakfast. He laughed. I sighed and smiled slightly. Well...At least we don’t have to drink it very often right? Like...Once a month...At the most....I trailed. And once again...You are wrong. We have to drink it everyday..Just like it’s water. Ryuu said lazily. EWW!!!! Where’d you here that?! I thought frightfully. The voice told me. Duh. He said. I pouted silently. Why’d you’re voice tell you all the stuff about drinking blood? Now I’m jealous. Of what??? I really have no idea...I just said it...I trailed lightly.

“Hello class. Sorry I’m late. I guess I got sidetracked on the road of life.” Kakashi Sensei said popping up somewhere behind me.

I sighed and didn’t even turn around.

“You liar!” Naruto and Sakura yelled at the same time.

“Anyways. I hope you guys are ready.  Because today is the day you start the Chunin Exams. Now. A last minute warning. Sakura, you shouldn’t go in the exams.” He said.

I snorted. Some warning, I thought.

“What??” She said shakily.

“If you go in these exams then there’s a huge probability that you won’t survive.” Kakashi Sensei said seriously.

She faltered for a moment. “No! I’m going in these exams!” She stated.

I sighed again. This is so cliche, I mean seriously. Even I know she can’t make it, she probably knows she likely to die. I thought bitterly.

“Ahhh, Misaki. I see that your here.” Kakashi Sensei said cheerfully.

I waved over my shoulder and continued staring at the water.

“Misaki. Did something...Happen last night? Maybe?” Kakashi Sensei asked brightly.

I shrugged. “Nothing out of the ordinary I guess.” I muttered.

I can’t read his expressions...Or his voice...I thought miserably. He sooo knows. Ryuu laughed.

“Are you sure?”

“Well actually...Now that you mention it...Something strange did happen...But I don’t want to tell you right now...” I said mockingly.

“Ahhh...I see...So it did happen then. And...What do you think?” He asked happily.

I glanced at him. “What do you mean?” I asked.

“What’s the first thing that pops into your head?”

I thought and smiled. “I hate the Hokage.” I said happily.

He was quiet.

“What?!” Naruto exclaimed loudly.

I laughed. “Yes, it’s true. I hate that old man all the way to death. And in fact. I want to kill him right now for lying to me.” I said with a smile.

I heard Naruto run towards me.

“No. Stop it Naruto.” Kakashi Sensei said bitterly.

“But Sensei-”

“Just forget it. She’s had a rough night.” He said angrily.

“Anyways Sensei. I’m going to go to the exams now. I don’t need the lecture, I’ve been ready for this day for years.” I muttered, walking off the bridge and towards the place the first exam was supposed to take place.

I was almost out of earshot when I stopped and turned around.

“Hey, Yuki. You coming with?” I called.

In and instant the kid was behind me, holding my hand and staring at me with big eyes.

“You mean you still want me around???” He asked excitedly.

I laughed. “Of course. You’re like a little brother to me.” I chuckled, picking him up and putting him on my back.

“Sweet.” He said as we walked towards the building. “But you realize you won’t be able to come with me, right?” I asked.

He pouted slightly. “I know. And I can’t even watch until the 3rd exam.” He whined.

I chuckled slightly. “Well, we’ll just have to see if I can stay alive that long.” I muttered.

He stiffened. “But you said you would live! You promised!” He said, his voice laced with worry.

I raised my eyebrows. “I don’t remember making said promise but...Alright...If you want me to I guess I can live.” I said jokingly.

He took a few seconds to process what I said. Then he started laughing like crazy.

I rolled my eyes and began to walk fast, anticipation running through my body.

Oh man. I can’t wait to get in there. Of course the first exam is going to tank. It’s just a written test...How boring...And there is the slightest chance that we will die...I thought excitedly. And your excited? Yeah...I’m ready!
