Chapter 23

I flopped on the couch, my arm flopping over the side uselessly.

“Ugh, that was terrible. I never want to work that hard again. I’m exhausted.” I panted.

“But we got away.” Yuki pointed, locking the door and closing the windows.

I shrugged. “I guess so.” I muttered.

I heard Yuki flop in the chair next to me and looked up. “I still wonder why he chased us though...” I trailed.

“Well I’ll tell you. Just don’t run away this time.” Sasuke said to my right.

“HOLY-” I yelled, jumping up and falling off the couch.

I glanced upward, he was smirking at me. I sat up and rubbed my back. “What the hell are you doing in my house??!” I spat.

He smirked again, “Don’t you want to know why I chased you?”

I grit my teeth. “I couldn’t care less. Now leave.” I snarled.

He smiled evilly. “Funny. You seem angry. Is something wrong?” He said smugly.

I stood up and glared at him with everything I had. “You better get the hell out of my apartment or I swear I’ll kill you.” I growled.

Shock flashed on his face for a second, and then he went emotionless. “Why are you so angry?”

At this point I whipped out a kunai, lunging forward and holding it at his throat. “If you put one hand on Yuki, I’ll kill you.” I said crazily.

He looked at me, fear flickering dimly on his face. “What’s wrong with you?! You know I was kidding! I wouldn’t even touch the kid!” He yelled.

My arms began to tingle and I jumped back, my body spazing out uncontrollably. I gasped and fell on my knees.

What’s..What’s going on?? I thought panically.

“Calm down. Don’t move, talk or resist.” Ryuu said through me.

I cried out in pain as he stabbed into my arm. I instinctively grabbed my wrist even though there was no blood.

“STOP MOVING!” Ryuu yelled.

With a snarl of rage I gave in, flopping down on my side and twitching slightly, drool coming from my mouth.

I feel like a mental patient! Why can’t I control my body?! I thought frantically.

“Calm yourself. This was bound to happen sometime.” Ryuu said.

“Why...Why do you keep talking through my body....” I croaked, my eyesight beginning to go all fuzzy.

“You must listen to me. You can’t resist this. If you do, I will destroy your body. Just don’t move. You! Uchiha, go get some water. Little boy, go grab some towels.” Ryuu instructed to the 2 of them, “NOW!”

I heard them bolt in 2 different directions but couldn’t see them, my eyesight was nearly entirely black.

“I...Can’t see...” I mumbled weakly.

“This is going to be a regular thing. I can’t explain everything right now, but here’s the basics. As you grow older, your body will begin to reject me. And since I’m not sealed in your body you’ll go into random fits, sometimes you might not be able to control your body, sometimes you’ll start yelling for no reasons, I can’t predict what will happen, but it will happen. Don’t fight it, or my soul will destroy your body entirely. You have to learn to live with this.” He said.

I felt my body seize up.

“You...Have to be kidding me...This can’t be happening...How will I know when a fits about to happen??” I hissed.

“That’s the thing. I have no idea.” Ryuu said mournfully.

I summoned my will and rolled over as Sasuke and Yuki ran back. I could feel Ryuu talking through my lips but I couldn’t hear him. I was in shock. This can’t be happening...There has to be a reason my body’s rejecting him...There just has to be...I thought.

I cleared my mind and focused on Ryuu, looking through everything about him, his past, his present, his future...It was all basic things, everything I knew about him. He was the 10-tailed Dragon, a tailed-beast...He was planted inside my body by my own parents...He was at least a hundred years old...The smartest, strongest, and most powerful demon of them all...I mentally stamped my foot and dug deeper, stretching my ability to it’s limits...There was something that I didn’t know...Something that Ryuu didn’t know...Or something that had been erased from his memory...I felt a small tug on my heart, like my soul was going to rip but I kept going, digging deeper and deeper and deeper until I couldn’t feel my body anymore.

I felt myself gasp as my body spasmed once more and then went still. I couldn’t move, I felt myself sinking deeper and deeper until I was standing on a jagged cliff, overlooking a rocky and barren wasteland. There was no sign of life anywhere.

I looked around and noticed I was naked. I waited for myself to freak out but...I didn’t. It felt right...Like clothes weren’t needed or wanted here...I glanced around again.

“Hello??” I called.

Nothing but my own voice echoing across the rocks came back at me. I blinked.

Am I dead? What happened? I thought calmly. Why am I so calm? I should be freaking out right now...This is weird...What is this place?? I thought looking up at the dark sky.

Instead of a moon and stars it was just blackness, empty, bottomless. I looked around and saw no light, it was like somebody switched off the light and forgot to turn it back on. I laughed to myself quietly. This is kinda cool...I can see perfectly in the dark...I thought playfully.

“Why are you laughing, what’s there to laugh about?” A cold and raspy voice whispered in my ear.

I jumped back and reached for a kunai, my hand hitting empty air. I growled and looked forward, no one was there. I spun around, no one there. I narrowed my eyes and crouched slightly, like a tiger hunting it’s prey, my eyes darting around frantically.

“Looking for me?” The voice hissed again behind me.

I spun around and lunged towards the voice, only to find myself running towards nothing.

“Where are you, coward?! Stand and face me!” I hissed.

There was a cold laugh to my right, “Why must I fight you? I don’t believe we have a direct reason to fight, correct?” It laughed evilly.

I shivered slightly at the cold laugh and straightened up. “If we are not fighting then why am I in this place? And who, or what are you?” I demanded strongly.

It laughed again. “So many questions...So much time...Where to start...Hmmm....Well, why don’t you answer my question first, who are you?”

I blinked, “I am...I am...I...” I trailed.

I racked my brain, trying to find my name, my identity, where I came from...Anything. I snapped my head up.

“Who am I?” I asked cluelessly.

I felt my cheeks redden, what am I saying? Why would that thing know? Even more...Why can’t I remember who I am? I thought slowly.

It laughed again and I felt a breath of wind pass by my neck. I twitched slightly but didn’t move.

“You don’t even remember your name? How surprising...” It cooed.

I kept my eyes fixated in front of me, “I answered your question, now answer mine. Who are you?”

I thought I saw a flicker of light to my right but I didn’t turn. “Who am I? Can’t you answer that question yourself?” It laughed.

I kept my face emotionless. “You are me.” I said blankly.

It laughed again, “Correct, Misaki. You’re doing well. Now...Can you guess what this place is?” It chuckled.

I took one last sweep of the area with my eyes. “This is my soul.” I said slowly.

It laughed again, “Of course it is. Now, do you see how empty it is? Don’t you find that a little bit offending? Hmmm....”

“My soul?”

“Why yes. Where else would we be? After all, you are undergoing a transformation. And so is you’re little pet inside you.” It chuckled.

I blinked and turned towards it’s voice. “Pet? Transformation?”

“Of course. That little dragon...What was his name?...Rima? Ryuga?”

Something sparked in the back of my head, “Ryuu.” I whispered quietly.

It was quiet.

“I remember...Something about my body rejecting his soul...Something about not having a seal...Oh no...Tell me, am I dead?” I asked nervously.

It laughed again, “Are you?” It countered.

Anger ran threw my body, “Don’t test me! Tell me the truth! What is going on here!?” I said firmly.

“Come now. No need to get upset. I’m merely testing you. Anyways, back to business. You must know why you’re here...Don’t you?” It said, suddenly serious.

I swallowed hard. “I was looking up information on Ryuu and then...Something happened...” I said quietly.

“Yes. Precisely, do you wish to know what happened?” It asked, it’s voice like ice as it registered in my brain.

I nodded.

“Your soul was ripped in two. Your technically dead.” It laughed.
