A ResolutionA Poem by Kingsley M. U. ObikeWill you remember today, will you tomorrow? To let go is everything but trivial, Assurances that you are empty, A deception of a void, anything but.
What holds you back, what keeps you enthralled? Is it the creatures of years gone by? What do you seek, what do you want? Is it the creatures of years to come?
How the senses help us, distract us, Such gifts never hoped to possess. What magnanimity has creation wrought, To aid to an end we know not?
Created for noble purpose, Praise, revere, and serve unabashedly One who was, is, and is to come, So our teachers have taught.
Masters of what you survey, Over what you are graced to control, In so far as it leads to an end, Immortal souls to banishment or reward.
What ideals do you bear? What constants can you condone? What circumstances do you perceive? What trespasses for, do we atone?
Let memories forever serve, Tools of experience to highlight, Overwhelmed and begotten by them, Leaving us still asleep at long night.
Indifference to everything under the sun, People, places, positions in the world order, Living in constant purgatory of self, Betrays our existence and some.
Disordered affections, real attachments, Privy to souls’ inevitable destruction, Conquered by frivolities of desire, Buried by Passion’s own pariah.
Transgressions and faults abound, Wailing in alarm and constant attention, In sorrow, shame, pain and confusion, Ponder how justified you are not.
Why do the Heavens not strike? Why do the martyrs not cry out in lament? Why does creation not condemn you? Why do you not suffer enough?
You do suffer, not in vain, You do feel pain, not in strain, You do feel shame, with remorse, You are confused, not by force.
May your anger be righteous therefore, Let it spur you on the path, May your choices be resolute, Abiding in Truth, unalloyed and pure.
May your intellect be sharp, May your memories not burden you long, May your will not be yours, The Master do all things belong.
