Grandpa's pennies

Grandpa's pennies

A Poem by MikeV
"

This is all true I wrote it in rhyme form, so it may have lost the beauty that was in the story form of it

"
The day my grandpa passed away
He told my grandma about a dream he had the previous day
he told her he dreamt pennies fell on him from heaven
and he told her, how happy it had made him

whenever i think of my grandparents
i think of them at their 50th wedding anniversary dance
i see them dancing, with such vibrant smiles
i remember how he looked at her, like there was no one else around for miles

Now, years later, in my mind. I see my grandpa alone on a ballroom floor
patiently waiting for my grandma to enter the door

And every time i place a penny where my granpa lay to rest
i imagine him smile, as a penny from heaven, falls upon his chest

Tears are welling in my eyes with this one...honestly. I can so vividly picture the love between these two souls, and the idea of one waiting for the other in the big ballroom in the sky until the day that they can once again dance is just...well...it really is beautiful. My grandparents are both nearly 90 years old...I know this time is coming, and I am not prepared for it. This piece is going into my favorites.

Well done. this is definitely beautiful, emotional and I too teared up as I read it. I wonder if I will have fifty years with my spouse. That's rare these days.

Oh my Mike, this is so soft and beautiful Your thoughts of your grandma and grandpa are tender memories that evoke so much emotion on the page and filter through to the reader.
Lovely writing indeed. Made me sigh and smile all at once.

the memory of grandparents never grows old, although when I am only a memory, I suspect that pattern no longer will exist--at least in my family.
