Goodbye my friend

Goodbye my friend

A Poem by MikeV
"

Goodbye

"
I've had you since i was twelve, I'm almost thirty
you'll never know how much your death hurts me
its like a knife ripping at my soul
i feel so lost and out of control
I've had you since you were just a pup
though i had you eighteen years, it still doesn't seem like it was long enough
you were the best dog, in the whole wide world
why did you have to go and get so old?
I wanna act like your death is just pretend
i can't find the right words to say goodbye to such a great friend
i named you King, now you're finally on your throne
now that the angels have called you home
i love you King, i already miss you so much
but when i die, there will be nothing to separate us
i promise ill treat you better, then i did in this life
but until then, "i love you King, goodbye"

Oh heck Mike this made me cry! I am so sorry for your loss. I know I've become more attached to my pets over the years than people I think. They accept us so unconditionally that I think their loss seems to hit harder(well on a different level I guess)
And even when there's a new pet that tugs at our heartstrings, we never forget the ones gone before. You had King for so long, this must be even harder, especially when you were much younger when he came into your life.
Yes they are our very best friends!
A wonderful tribute.

True, yet the love they bring can far outweigh that. Maybe in time....You have to be ready.

A very honest tribute to a dearly loved pet. It must be hard when you share so much of your life with them. Thanx for sharing. R.I.P King.

You are always welcome friend.
Touching and very heartfelt. I, too, love dogs and they are the most loyal and faithful creatures one can encounter. I would have written same heartbreaking poem if anything bad happens to my four-pawed friend. Thanks for sharing your grief. Rest-assured that King is in a better place right now. :)

Thank you, that means a lot to me :)
Your emotions are expressed vividly in this piece. Your sadness is palpable. Some people cannot understand the closeness a dog and his owner can experience. I swear, my dog understands everything I say! I am sorry you lost such a wonderful king.

This made me cry... I cant bear the thought of losing my husky. He's my best friend.
I love the lines
"i named you King, now you're finally on your throne
now that the angels have called you home"
It's so beautifully put. I can also see the pain within your words and like in all sad situations, no matter how optimistic our view on it is, it will bring us down to sadness and tears.

This is touching piece and fitting song that is felt deeply. October 30th will be one year since I lost my best friend.. If you want to read that story read Shadow in the snow.. They are our family Glen.. Probably the most faithful relationship we will ever know. Unconditional love.. My heart goes out to you.. xo Rose

A true dog's best friend type of verse here...in the lines of this one Mike...our dog just turned 16 years of age and the Vet gave him a good bill of health...sorry to hear...but in dog years he lived a prosperous life...
