Ghost

Ghost

A Poem by Michael of Gilead
"

where do we all end up.............

"

Searching through a box full of ghosts

Looking for a life gone past

Sunny day memories, new cars, birthday’s

Briny vacations, waters fall

Black and white people

Gathered around picnic tables

Faces without names

Empty room, clock ticking

A black Hefty bag between my legs

Cufflinks, clothes, after shave

All in

Leather pouch, socks

A watch with a broken band

Is this really where we all end?

Thank you very much Kailer, yes these things are harsh

This poem is so beautiful in its reality and truth. I think about my own death quite often (I never expected to be alive this long to begin with). I often ask myself how I want to be remembered, only to realize that when I'm dead, it won't matter--my mind will be on eternal concerns then.
Still, I remember my grandfather's death--and the clean-up I had to do (that's quite a lasting memory when you're 11 years old). This stuff you wrote--especially about going through someone's old things and photos--very harsh and very true. Nice work!

You have an interesting way of looking at life. I enjoyed reading this. Penned beautifully.

Thank you very much Emma, it is a shame to allow things like this to happen, but we all look forward but not many willingly think of their death

Sad, sad, sad but oh so true .. maybe the cleaning up is something we need to talk about before we pop our worn-out clogs; maybe we need to remind people that other than day to day clothes etc, the left-overs just might have a special story. As to black and white pics, they should be family treasures, named/dated on the back as part of who and what's gone before. We plan for our entry onto stage, why not the exit. Your very sensitive poem's made me think, look back, look forward. Thank you.
