Nostalgia #1

Nostalgia #1

I want to live somewhere

Where

I can hear the train

It’s distant horns blaring

Bringing in the morning

Where the leaves of the trees

Gently rustle thoughts within me

Conjuring dreams

Remembering days of

DVDs and

Playground swings

Bowls of blackberries

Maraschino cherries

Whipped cream and

Burnt marshmallows

Smoke in the air

Sun in my hair

The early morning cool

Jumping in the pool

Seeing through

the eyes of a wolf

wild in the woods with

no shame

Being called a different name

Kisses on the cheek

Laughing sweet

4 am under blankets

on the floor

With only darkness around

Stories and secrets

 Poured

Attempts to mend

Letters to friends

Promising to grow old together

Promising to love and remember

The days

We could not know

Were to be treasured

one thing i know i dont want is to live anywhere near where trains pass. yet your opening statement was believable and understandable. the memory of a train horn blaring is special to you and while i can not relate i know the feeling behind it. nor do i know what Maraschino cherries are, but i remember eating something delicious as a child and those memories still warm my heart.
the more specific the details, the more universal the appeal. you have understood and played with this truism so well here. im from the other side of the world and yet we are connected on some level. nostalgia is universal and while the details of our memories differ, heart understands heart.

A thought provoking write for sure! The 4 am sleepovers when we were supposed to be sleep by 12, Having mother fix us all banana splits with plenty of maraschino cherries and ice cream smearing all around our chattering mouths. What a sweet write!

Gee
"The days we would not know were to be treasured" how very, very true.
Oh to fall back into the innocence of our childhood, teen years, before life and work got in the way of living, our lives becoming, sometimes and often, an existence around our working hours, ughhh
Loved this piece
