VoicesA Poem by Corey O'Brien
There's a demon on my shoulder and
an angel on my back With silver tongues and hallowed psalms their language I can't grasp One tells of pain's impermanence it's fury never lasts The other tells of fiery fjord from which I will be cast One tightens grip with tendril tail around my torso there The other spreads its wings to shine a holy luminaire One tells me of the strength of man the essence of all life The other in His absence sings of never ending strife Their voices pierce my weakened heart Their songs do lift my soul With merriment and avarice They both take each their toll For both it seems but want one thing And for it they do lust For light and dark work hand in hand To reap my final trust © 2016 Corey O'BrienAuthor's Note
