A Story by Jessie

I lay in my bed, my scratchy covers pulled to my chin. My hair and pillow were soaked with the tears running off my face. My body shook violently with every racking sob I took. Through the thin walls of my 'bedroom' I hear shouting and cursing. They are at it again. I curled myself up into a ball, drawing my knees to my chest.

I jumped when something hit the wall beside me. I forced my body to be still as I listened with my ear up against the wall. It was quiet for a moment or two, and someone was mumbling something I couldn't make out. Then the familiar slam of the door was heard. It was quiet for another moment, and then somebody began walking down the hall. His footsteps echoed in my head, as sleep lowered my heavy eyelids.

A well written/story/poem. A frightful feeling flooded with emotions in the middle of the night, reminds me of my husband and I fighting and arguing, as our children must have felt as they would try to sleep in the middle of many a chaotic night. A sad tale. Thank you for sharing. Debileah
