Destitute the pawn now wanders...

Destitute the pawn now wanders...

A Poem by Midnight Shadow
"

Here another piece from my first collection.

"

Destitute, the pawn now wanders.
In a world, unlike his own.
Misbegot, the fortune banished
Now the stricken walk alone.
Open up to coarse temptations
Brandishing an addicts crown.
As your life misinterprets
Watch the pieces all fall down!

Condemnation, from the masses
Carry forward to hide the pain.
Darting from the piercing glances
Seeking shelter in the rain.
Bare the brunt of misperception
They never ask, they just assume.
The truth is never in the question
Expect the worst, just as they do.

This is not a warrior's tale.
For his battle, has long been lost.
Here you'll find the price of love
Though such true things should have no cost!

Questioning, the pawn moves onward
Looking back at bridges burned.
Unconditional once had meaning
A lesson hard for one to learn.
Abandoning the proposed gestures
Happiness so far behind.
Exclusive bouts of repressed anger
Trigger tears inside my mind.

This is not a hero's quest.
This battered dreamer is all but lost.
He sacrificed the price of love.
Though such true things should have no cost!

Open up to coarse temptations
Brandishing an addicts crown.
Lose your life to circumstances
And watch the pieces all fall down!

I really love the timeless quality of this poem. It feels as it if was written during the Romantic era or last night and that works well your chosen subject. Also the structure is tight throughout, but it never overtakes your writing in any way. It works with your writing giving it an almost Shakespearean feel which of course is what many of the Romantic era poets were trying to recapture. You have...well done.
