I am a poet

I am a poet

A Poem by Midnight Shadow
"

Something I wrote a few years back. It's a favorite of mine.

"

I tempted the fates
And they answered back loud
I hid from the pain
With my head in the clouds
I lost all control
And embraced the numb
And it took all of this
To make me who I’ve become!

I am a poet
Whose voice has been bruised.
I am the sheltered
The world has abused.
I’ve been beyond reason
And paid all it’s costs.
I have seen innocence
Both taken and lost.
I held tight to a dream
In heart, hand, and mind.
Saw it ripped at the seams
And I left it behind.
I’ve danced in the spotlight
And been bathed in applause.
But I’ve given up
Deemed myself a lost cause.

I am a poet
With a message of hope
I am the damned
Never learning to cope.
I have been at the crossroads
Where so few have passed.
I have heard the answers
To all that I’ve asked.
I held to a notion
I thought was a clue
Saw it flawed and forgotten
And never proven true.
I dared to seek greatness
But I’m stuck here on pause.
So I’ve given up
Deemed myself a lost cause!

I tempted the fates
And they answered back loud
I hid from the pain
With my head in the clouds
I lost all control
And embraced the numb
And it took all of this
To make me who I’ve become!

I am a poet
Whose pen’s been made weak.
I am the answer
No one ever would speak.
I have been enlightened
By this path of pain
I have seen the wicked
Preying on the tame.
I held on to the hope
Til I could take it no more,
Then I left it behind
As I had my dream before.
I failed to conquer
My most tragic flaws.
So I stand defeated
And deemed a lost cause!

I tempted the fates
And they answered with a laugh.
I hid from the pain
Until the clouds made me gasp.
I lost everything
In the numbing embrace
As I became the essence
Of all that I faced!

I was a poet
Whose message was never spoken,
Whose voice was abused,
Misused, and broken!

This is lovely. I love the structure you used as well.

This is a fantastic representation of all the stages writers go through. I feel the ending is a little abrupt, but if you were going for the "brick wall" impact you got it. nicely done.

Brilliant piece. You kept a flow all the way through, and described the walls of a poet beautifully. You are a poet. Rain..

It is brave to stand as naked as this in thought and feeling. It's been a while since you wrote this, it's been a while since I've felt this way, and yet in the moment of the words I am there again, and will return, as the seasons of life come and go.

'I held tight to a dream
In heart, hand, and mind.
Saw it ripped at the seams
And I left it behind.'

It is sad. Pokes a finger in my chest saying 'You bin there!' Sure it will mean other things to other people but this is what it means to me.
Thanks for sharing............x
