ConstellationsA Poem by MidnightSeraphI've always loved the stories behind constellations, so I wrote a poem about themStars tell tales immortal as their cores, Empty lightyears joining myth to myth. Ancient heroes fighting ancient wars, Waves of anguish painting distant shores, Pour their hearts into our monoliths. But though these legends live eternal, Written in molten diamond and steel Their characters endure fates infernal, Suffering in flames nocturnal, Hearts ripped from chests just begun to heal Is it not cruel to deify pain? To span the sky with others’ tears To watch as Cygnus dies and planets wane Tear off his wings, make him start again, From icy depths the hero reappears. Ariadne weaves her golden thread And Bacchus fashions her a crown, Constellations know what’s left unsaid, And soon enough her heart bleeds red The planets shift and lovers drown. © 2021 MidnightSeraphAuthor's Note
