Between My Skull and the Tissue of My Brain

Between My Skull and the Tissue of My Brain

A Poem by Sarah I.

Between my skull and the tissue of my brain

Lingers an unquiet, unconstrained being

A little person compacted and compressed into

Every person I ever was,

Every person I have portrayed myself as, and

Every person I ever will be;

Its size reflecting the authenticity of the countless people it is made from.

It shouts and screams out

All the opinions,

All the criticism, and

All the authenticity that always then

Dissolves and dissipates during the process of translation

From inward to outward

Countless times during my lifetime,

Often more than thrice a day,

This little person is molded, constructed, and again

Compacted; it is restructured to

Suit the ever-changing life it lives inside

Forever being born and reborn again

Restricted to the borders of my mind

Unable to communicate with the outside world

Unable to escape

Unable to decay

Unable to wither away
