How Are You

How Are You

A Poem by Lauren Jones
"

Just a pondering of mine

"

“How are you?”

Such a simple question but it doesn’t not ask for a simple response.

“I’m fine” but are you really?

“I’m here” but is that all?

“I’ve been better” but have you been worse?

Up and down on the roller coaster of life

Surviving our bipolar days

Wandering through our schizophrenic world

All of us lost in a sea of conflicting emotions

Anxiety, happiness, lust

Loss, grief, unity

How do we relate the complexity of our universe in one response?

How can we answer the question to the full extent?

“I’m alive and tingling with warring sensations”

“I’m torn apart by wanderlust and agoraphobia”

“I want to fly with joy but I am tied to an anchor of sorrow”

Our world is not simple so neither are we

Answer me this: “How are you?”

Gripping of a read with this one...and your question:

“How are you?”
Such a simple question but it doesn’t not ask for a simple response.

In life...people are at a habit of answering that a whim and a prayer... the first thing that come to their mind or the imprint left in the confines of their cranium... and then you leave it all out for the reader...again reminding them the proverbial question:

Our world is not simple so neither are we
Answer me this: “How are you?”

At times the simplest answer is easier to say...but the road to the defining moment of how you answer the question is a life time of an equation of simply:

“How are you?”
