Living Ghost

Living Ghost

A Poem by Lauren Jones

Her pale hair billows behind her like sails on a mast

Her eyes are the beautiful yet foreboding green of a stormy sky

She glides over the earth as if her feet never touch the ground

The tears are dry on her face

But her eyes of stormy sky promise rain

She is as alive as the old oak she leans against

She is a living ghost

Her heart died when her first love said good-bye

Its ghost still beats a sorrowful tune

The aching wind carries her tale

And everywhere it goes,

The heavens themselves cry

She is a living ghost

Her eyes see but she perceives nothing

Her lips part for words yet speak none

Her skin yearns for sunshine but feels no warmth

Her ears yearn for his voice but hear nobody

She is a living ghost

To her it’s always gray

To her happiness was years away

To her life is death

She is a living ghost

But not living much longer

Her sorrow takes its toll

She is a ghost
