Time to Start Letting Me Go...

Time to Start Letting Me Go...

A Poem by Midnight96

I try and do my best.

To make you proud of me.

It's when I disappoint you,

it hurts the most.

You have high expectations for me to meet.

Whether it's getting on the A Honor Roll,

or just being the perfect girl without any flaws.

I help you.

I let you in when I don't let anyone else in.

Letting you be my shoulder to cry on.

You're the father I've never had but always wanted.

You care for me like your own.

Say you love me like your own.

Telling strangers that I'm your daughter.

But there are times you treat me like I'm still 3 years old.

You set these rules that aren't reasonable.

When acting on these things,

I feel I can't do anything.

Like I'm an infant,

always needing help by it's parents.

You say you trust me,

that I'm a good kid.

The most important thing?

I make you proud.

I need freedom,

I'm growing up even if you don't want to see that.

I'm growing as a person,

you need to let me go.
