My Journey
Gazing out of the car window, travelling along
things become such a blur,
slow down in traffic and things become clearer.
I see fields of deep green grass,
littered with beautiful red poppies,
daisies , yellow buttercups and dandelions
all nodding their heads in the gentle breeze.
Cows munching on grass, their
mouths ripping and pulling at the long stems,
they glance up as we inch past
with their chocolate brown eyes
and velvet looking noses up in the air,
then bored go back to their chomping,
I see hedges of yellow gorse with dark green leaves
and the brown of the hawthorns with
little birds hopping in and out,
then a tiny mouse
looks up and with a twitch of it’s nose scampers away
back to the safety of the hedge and it’s warm nest,
just as a crow lands on a nearby bush cawing loudly.
as I look around I see a tree, standing alone,
it’s limbs twisted and bent,
then the traffic starts to move
and all I see is the occasional outline of large trees
skeletal limbs reaching up into the sky,
green hedges and grey walls,
then a patchwork of fields off in the distance
with splotches of white and black where
cows and sheep are grazing.
pylons stand proud like soldiers on parade,
as I travel on these big metal giants
give way to wind turbines
whizzing around in the breeze,
beautiful in a strange kind of way.
The sky darkens, the view disappears
it all starts to dim and mix into one.
I’m nearing my journey’s end,
all I can see now is brick and glass
a few little trees and a bit of green grass.
off the motorway my journey slows
schools, offices and shops all greet the eye,
more people and more trash.
The car stops, I’ve arrived at my destination
Home , sweet home !!!!

Those long journeys. Our mind do wander. We see things we never saw and the mind begin to seek more. Hello Lisa and thank you for sharing your amazing poetry and your thoughts.

It is indeed a very descriptive poem, filled with vibrant nature imagery. The last lines may be an observation concerning how development is encroaching on this beauty.
