The Devil's dealA Story by MidianA angry youth get's a powerful magic ringDevan Stone was an angry frustrated youth,
misunderstood by his parents, bullied at school and detested by his teachers. He
wore piercings in his lip and chin and
shaved half of his head bold, he wore black nail polish and ink on his lips;
his only friend was Crash, a young hacker, real name Becky Wilkins. Her parents
were over concerned and told her to stay away from him. If they were to know
she hacked into the site of the FBI unnoticed by her own scrambler, (an
invention made by her), the would go through the roof. It
was a drizzly Tuesday. He and Crash sat on a bench in the park. How
is your eye? It saw blue. ‘Trevor
hits like a girl.’ he said ‘a toddler for that sake.’ She
laughed, ‘look you all acting though.’ ‘I
am getting tired of being everybody’s trash bucket. He said. I am glad you
don’t give me the finger.’ ‘Dev,
I have to tell you something.’ she said serious ‘What
is the matter.’ ‘I
am seeing someone.’ ‘Who.’ ‘Jones.’ ‘Dirk
“jerkface” Jones? He always hits me. The last time he cut me with his knife and
I needed stiches.’ he said angry ‘He’s
really nice if you get to know him.’ she said defensive ‘We?
Over, forever.’ said Devan, stood up and took his bike. ‘Devan,
please let’s talk about it. He put up his hood and drove on his red and black
mountain bike home, not caring being run over or not. He
went to his room on the attic. He took an old book that belonged to his great
great grandmother. She was accused of being a witch and was burned at the
stake. There was a page involving summoning the devil by sacrificing a cat. He took
Snowwhite, the pet cat from his sister who was always mean and condescending
towards him. She hissed. He had drawn a devils pentagram with his own blood on
the floor and lighted the black candles He
started reciting the old spell, words of a long lost civilization, carried to
the centuries. He took a sacrificial blade, also belonging to his ancestors and
stabbed the cat through the heart. Smoke and sulfur filled the room. ‘What do
you want from me, human?’ a bellowing voice asked ‘A means to punish those who hurt me, I want
revenge.’ ‘What
a beautiful motive. I shall leave you with a magic ring, if you want somebody
to disappear just wish it, and for every person you kill in this way you get
one wish the ring will carry out. Sounds good.’ said a hissing voice ‘Yes.’
Devon said enthusiastic He
took the black ring with the red stone and put it on his left ring finger. He
felt an incredible power coursing to his veins, it was almost as if he was on
fire inside.
His
elder sister barged in. ‘Hey, freak, you saw my cat.’ Then she saw all the
blood on the floor, the cat was gone. ‘What the hell did you with Snowwhite she
yelled and slapped him. ‘Bye, sis.’ he grinned, his sister went up in smoke. He
laughed demonically. He cleaned up the blood, put the candles away and the
book. The red stone on his ring shined bright. His dad was worried; ‘did you
saw your sister today, Devon?’ ‘No,
I didn’t.’ he lied ‘Well
if you would put of your headset with that infernal noise that you call music
ones in a while and get away from your computer you might be useful for something once.’ his dad said ‘Bye
bye.’ said Devon His
dad disappeared.
Mom
came home late. ‘Mom, I am so glad to see you said Devon upset. Both my Tracy
and dad didn’t come home.’ ‘What,
why didn’t you phone me.’ ‘I
didn’t think of it.’ he said playing the concerned brother In
his head he thought: ’that are two wishes already.’ He
grinned.
It
was a long time ago he looked forward going to school but first he stopped
at Spike, a methdealer. ’Give
me 10 ounces, Spike.’ ‘Show
me the cash first.’ Devan
gave him his money. ‘Well, you hit a money tree didn’t you?’ Spike said
sarcastically You
have no idea. He wished he won the jackpot of the lottery and the money was on
his account. I the bad room he snorted several lines of the white powder. It
gave him a boost. ‘Well,
well. My favorite punching bag’ said Jones ‘Bye
bye, Jones, see you in hell.’ The ring glanced, Jones disappeared screaming. Crash
came looking for Devon. ‘Have you seen Dirk.’ ‘He
changed schools I believe. Our he’s skipping classes, that wouldn’t be a
surprise is it? ‘I
am worried.’ she said ‘He
is a big boy.’ Devon comforted her ‘I
know but he is always doing stupid things.’ she said ‘Like
cutting my face.’ said Devon sarcastically ‘I
am wasting my time with you, you hate him.’ Devon
took her arm. ‘Look it isn’t just that I hate the guy, I like you as a friend,
as a brother. I don’t want to see you hurt over somebody who doesn’t deserves
it.’ ‘Just
leave me alone.’ she cried He
fought the urge to make her disappear to, but he couldn’t. He went back
snorting in the toilet and went to class when the bell rang. ‘Alright,
history ladies and gentlemen. Who was the emperor of Germany in World War I’ ‘Wilhelm
the first.’ said Devon Second
wish, ultimate knowledge. ‘And
they had a treaty with…’ ‘Austria/Hungary.’
Devon said ‘Are
you that looking up, you sneaky b*****d. Devon
showed his hands. ‘No smartphone, no book. Grill me.’ Alright
what was the incident that started the war. The murder of Franz Ferdinand of
Hungary in Serbia. Because Wilhelm had to help Austria Hungary he wanted to
invade France first so he didn’t have to fight on two fronts. But Belgium
refused to let his army pass and a desperate trench warfare followed. Millions
died for less than a yard advancement on the front.’ ‘I
am impressed, Mister Stone ‘why your sudden interest for this war?’ ‘War
in general interest me, it takes the thin layer of humanity from us and makes
us more worse than an animal.’ he stated ‘Well.
Class dismissed.’ Devon
grinned. Crash spoke to him outside. ‘What was that?’ exclaimed Crash ‘What
do you mean?’ said Devon playing stupid ‘You
hate history.’ she yelled ‘Well,
I try to better myself.’ ‘you
don’t wear piercings anymore and no nail polish, you shaved your head clean and
your lips aren’t blue.’ she said, what’s
going on ‘We
all have to grow up once, don’t we. See you on the flipside crash, my greetings
to Dirk, if you ever find him.’ he laughed He
walked away and felt a million bucks. After
school he went to a group of teachers who always have him a hard time. ‘Hello
f*****s.’ said Devon ‘You
have to be one to know one. Where is your lipstick and nail polish?’ said one
teacher ‘Funny.
Talk to the hand. Goodbye.’ Devon grinned maniacally The
teachers disappeared
The
next day he went to spike and asked double the amount of the day before. He
gave the cash. ‘Gee, you are starting to become a good client.’ ‘The
new me.’ ‘Well
it can’t be worse than the one before. Devon put on his hood and went to snort
the speed inside the toilet. ‘Honey, are you here?’ said Debby, the most
popular in school. I
am in here, babe, want a sniff?’ ‘She
entered, closed the door and sniffed a line. They
went hand in hand to class. Everybody stared. ‘No
way, she and dorky Devon?’ the shool’s quarterback said ‘Man,
I must be tripping.’ said somebody from the soccer team ‘More
like she has to be.’ an African-American with dreadlock exclaimed ‘Well,
there goes her popularity down the drain.’ another girl said He
waved his hand, all vanished. ‘Were
is the rest of the class?’ said the math teacher furious Everybody
shook their shoulders.
Cops
were brought into this they questioned everybody. Devon said:’ I find it
strange my dad and sister also vanished one day without a not our leaving a
trace. Then my friend said she couldn’t found her boyfriend.’ ‘This
is going on for days now?’ asked an officer ‘Yes,
didn’t my mom called you about that?’ ‘She
did, mister Stone, it seems people disappear with you around. Let’s not forget
the teachers. The gym teacher, chemist teacher and geography teacher.’ ‘What
do you think, I ate them or something.’ ‘No,
I have no evidence but I will be watching you closely buddy.’ the man said He
waited, followed the police car on his new scooter, it was an expensive one
fixed to drive faster than legally permitted. At a Starbucks the cop who
suspected him went inside. He flashed his hand. The cop was gone; he turned
around and drove home. He said his heavy metal on and laughed. He did an
impression. ‘What do you want, Devon? The world chico and everything in it.’ His
mother entered. ‘Are you a psychopath? Your sister and father are missing and
you laugh and quote an awful movie with that dreadful music on. He
made a wish. ‘My
sweet Devon.’ she hugged him ‘you were always my favorite, f**k that loser
husband and b***h of a daughter. I am going to make your favorite dinner.’ ‘Thanks,
mom.’ he said Well
that started to look like a bearable life.
‘You
know what to do?’ the old man said ‘Yes.’
the girl said bravely ‘Will
you be able to wield it if he is in front of you’ said the elderly monk
concerned ‘I
won’t fail you, sir.’ said the girl brave ‘Because
he only has to give it one thought and you are true. The ring is a dreadful
weapon.’
He
was on his way to school when she jumped in
front him and swung the blade, he could dive away, turned around and
yelled: ’what’s your problem?’ ‘You,
satanic scumbag.’ she screamed and jumped forward Devon
waved his hand. She vanished yelling.
She
failed, you sent her to her death de bald monk said. A sword, you are old but
this weapons are useless against someone who wields the Devil’s Ring. We are
not sending or own anymore, I contacted professionals. ‘Lowlifes
who kill for money.’ he said despising ‘The
result justifies the means. Or order can’t risk more casualties.’ the man said
angry
Devon
wished for immortality, he wished the same like he was. It was his birthday, he
became 18. Normally it wasn’t celebrated anymore since he became 15 and had his
first serious argument with his parents about drugs and poor grades; that was
the way of punishing him, his sister got a hell of a party, he didn’t get
anything. Thinking back he hated them for the way they treated him. He hated
everyone, he realized, even Crash didn’t sent him a birthday card or showed up.
A bullet entered the window through his head. He felt a bit dizzy, but the
wound closed, he saw a man on the roof with a sniper rifle. He waved his hand,
the man disappeared cursing. The doorbell rang, his mother opened and yelled,
footsteps on the stairs. Devon knew they came for him. He let them shot till
all there ammunition was spent and waved then with his hand, day disappeared.
He comforted his mother. ‘It’s okay, there gone.’ he said
‘Now
there’s no stopping him anymore.’ said the elder monk. ‘He has to relinquish the power
himself.’ I pity the world. Maybe somebody can defrost his heart the bald man
said. ‘This Crash girl.’ ‘Has
a crush on a moron, it was his last light in his dark life, when she bailed on
him this started. With faith on his lowest dark forces grow stronger than ever. ‘I
am going to talk to her.’ ‘She
will think you are nutty.’ ‘With
a callous overconfident sorcerer lose on the streets I think all efforts are
worth the try.’ Crash
opened the door.’ ‘Are
you here to sell something.’ ‘The
truth about Dirk Jones.’ he said He
talked for a half hour. ‘Devon
couldn’t have done those things.’ she defended him ‘His
life was pretty miserable but he cling onto something. That was you before you
started dating the guy who permanently scarred his face.’ the bald monk said ‘Are
you trying to make myself feel guilty.’ ‘No,
you are our last chance that a powerful evil is erased from this plane of
existence.’ ‘I
shall talk to him.’ ‘That’s
all I ask from you, I’ll be off,
success.’ Crash
found Devon at home, a painter was busy making a portrait of him. ‘What do you
think of the colors, it should have some more dark to it. ‘Like
your soul.’ ‘Oops,
somebody is angry. Oh wait, it’s me, I became 18 yesterday, a little side note
for your personal agenda.’ ‘I
didn’t come because I thought you hang out with Debby who I think is a major
b***h.’ ‘She
is a bubblehead, I don’t have anything with her, it was just to piss everyone
of that ever joked me.’ ‘In
that case we still are friends.’ Yes. Devon snorted a line. ‘Sit down, relax.’
he said She
sank inside a pillow seat. ‘Listen, that ring has to go, it is major evil.’
said Crash ‘It
made my pathetic life worth living.’ Devon exclaimed ‘I
am hear for you, I confess, seeing Dirk Jones was low of me, I should have
thought of your feelings. But making people disappear, that’s just wrong.’ ‘Some
deserve it.’ he said softly ‘You
leave me no choice.’ She grabbed the sacrificial knife and pointed it to her
heart ‘lose the ring or I kill myself.’ ‘No,
you won’t you will be my girlfriend.’ The ring flickered. Crash started kissing
him. Then there was pain. The painter had cut of the ring finger, took the ring
and made it disappear.
Devon
wake up. He counted his fingers, they were all there. His
sister walked in. ‘Hey jerk face, you saw Snowwhite? Devon stood up and looked
under the bed, he gave her to his sister. ‘Here you go, Becca.’ ‘Aren’t
you mad. He gave her a hug. ‘I never say this, but I couldn’t wish for a better
big sis than you.’ She
messed up his hair. ‘You nutty freak, same to you little brother.’ ‘Dad,
mom, I have an announcement, I am going to hit the books really hard. Enough of
wasting my life. If you want respect you have to earn it. I will pass this
grade.’ ‘Well
looks somebody became mature on his 18th birthday. Maybe he should
look in the living-room to check for a birthday present. He saw an electric
guitar with an amplifier. He
hugged his parents. Thanks guy, you are the best. Crash
rang his doorbell, ‘want to ride with me to school?’ ‘Let
me get my bike.’ And
so ended a journey in the dark while the light switch was always present.
